Phoenix Convention Center hosts Phoenix Phabulous History ExhibitPhoenix Convention Center hosts Phoenix Phabulous History Exhibit

The Phoenix Convention Center proudly hosts the Phoenix Phabulous History Mural, an indoor art mural series telling the Phoenix story in nine time periods.

From the early Hohokam civilization to the imagined future, 16 large painted murals capture notable events throughout Phoenix history as told by historians, researchers, authors and residents of all ages. Local artists created intricate paintings about their assigned time periods to depict major Phoenix landmarks, leaders, issues and urban legends.

“The collection reflects commitment by talented local artists to learn about, and illustrate the unique and dramatic story of Phoenix,” said Carol Poore, president and producer of the Phoenix Phabulous Experience. “The murals create unique opportunities to show the fortitude it took to create a desert community, and our storytelling gathers people who share fascinating personal stories about their connections to our city and aspirations for its future.”
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:"times new roman";font-size:medium;line-height:normal;">

The murals were created during a two-year period and included storytelling events focused on each of the nine time periods. Local artist Hugo Medina served as curator and project advisor.
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:"times new roman";font-size:medium;line-height:normal;">

One of the many unique pieces include a mural created by artist Darrin Armijo-Wardle, which depicts Phoenix pioneers during territorial and early statehood years. The mural provides a glimpse into the life of the city’s founding pioneers, water stewardship, and perseverance to build a community while surviving hot weather and periods of drought and floods.
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:"times new roman";font-size:medium;line-height:normal;">

Other murals feature iconic eras of air conditioning and shift from agriculture to industry after World War II, Phoenix high-rise development and glimpses of the imagined future.
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:"times new roman";font-size:medium;line-height:normal;">

The mural collection can be seen in the Phoenix Convention Center West Building Arcade, 100 N. Third St., First Floor.
