Phoenix Smart City App Hack Winner to Be Named This WeekPhoenix Smart City App Hack Winner to Be Named This Week<div class="ExternalClass60D0365A1B824BDB8496FD87AC2D5EB8"><table width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:100%;"><p>The winner of the Phoenix Smart City App Hack will be crowned at the City Finale this Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 at the Orpheum Theater, 203 W. Adams St., from 4:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; complimentary tickets can be <a href="http://lists.phoenix.gov/t/1266092/341381/15949/3/"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">downloaded online</span></a>. The Finale is co-sponsored by the City of Phoenix, the Institute for Digital Progress (iDP) and Downtown Phoenix Inc. </p><p>The event kicks off with a beer and wine garden, hosted by local brewery Wren House Brewing Co., with drinks to purchase and a meet-and-greet with the finalists from 4:30 to 6:30 followed by the full event program from 6:45 to 8. </p><p>The city partnered with iDP to participate in the Smart city App Hack to encourage local entrepreneurship and help turn citizens into app makers to design and build applications and startup companies that will make for a better, smarter and more sustainable Phoenix. </p><p>The five finalists are ParkX, Synergy AZ, HER, Bloodhound, and Bus Plus. The winner will represent Phoenix at the international competition at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona in November. The five finalists were chosen last month by a panel of local leaders and industry experts. Details on the finalists are available on the city website at: phoenix.gov/news/district3/917. The second and third place winners earn cash prizes. A panel of industry experts and local city officials will pick the winners, along with input from attendees at the finale who will get to participant through live text-to-vote. </p><p>"The Finale is an opportunity for anyone interested in the tech sector in Phoenix to see for themselves how far we've come in the innovation economy," Councilman Bill Gates said. "We have five great finalists, so we're guaranteed to have a world-class entry at the international final."</p><p>"I know our five competing teams have been hard at work finalizing their apps and pitches for this final presentation, and they are all strong, creative ideas," said Mayor Greg Stanton. "We will soon have the opportunity to show the world the outstanding innovation and talent that is coming from Phoenix, Arizona."</p><p>"The Finale is a great opportunity to see how successful Phoenix has become in nurturing innovators," Vice Mayor Daniel Valenzuela said.
