Additional details from the Police Department on the shooting are listed after the councilwoman's statement:</p><p>"A suspect has been arrested for the homicide that occurred in Sunnyslope at 211 E. Alice Avenue on Sept. 2, 2016. I would like to commend the Phoenix Police Department for their dedication to this incident. The swift action of the team led to the arrest of a suspect, and I know that so many will rest better tonight after hearing this news.<br> <br>Our community is an extension of the police department's eyes and ears. Remember to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity and crime in an emergency to 9-1-1 or in a non-emergency to 602-262-6151."</p><p><br>The Phoenix Police Department issued the statement below on this arrest:</p><p>UPDATE – Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016; An arrest has been made in the homicide of 24-year-old Rosario Cortez, which occurred at 211 E. Alice Ave.on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at around 6:15 p.m. Probable cause was developed to arrest the seventeen-year-old suspect at his home in Mesa. The juvenile admitted to his involvement during an interview with detectives and was booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Correctional Center on one count of Second Degree Murder. Because he is a juvenile, the suspect's name is not being released.</p><p>Date/Time:     Friday, Sept. 2, 2016; 6:15 p.m.</p><p>Victim:            Rosario Cortez, Hispanic Male, 24 years old (deceased)</p><p><span style="line-height:20.8px;">Original Details:        At around 6:15 p.m., Phoenix Police responded to the area of 2nd Street and Alice Avenue for numerous calls of shots fired.
