Councilman Bill Gates Applauds Major Innovation and Efficiency Savings MilestoneCouncilman Bill Gates Applauds Major Innovation and Efficiency Savings Milestone<div class="ExternalClass88899C618CB344DCAE21B23500BF81A5"><p>Phoenix Councilman Bill Gates is touting a major milestone in the city's innovation and efficiency efforts – surpassing $100 million in savings. The city surpassed the $100 million mark in the past few weeks with the grand total now nearly $103 million.<br><br>Councilman Gates chairs the city council's Finance, Efficiency, Economy and Sustainability Subcommittee, which will hear a report on the progress of the city's Innovation and Efficiency Task Force's efforts at its June 17 meeting at 10 a.m. in Assembly Rooms A and B in Phoenix City Hall, 200 W. Washington St. <br><br>"The recession made it clear that we needed to find a leaner, more financially sustainable way to provide city services," said Councilman Gates, chair of the city council's Finance, Efficiency, Economy and Sustainability Subcommittee. "With a combination of administrative streamlining, organizational consolidation, and strategic rightsourcing, we've found major efficiencies in every corner of the city organization."<br><br>From the task force's start in the 2009-10 fiscal year into 2015-16 the city has adopted 147 innovation and efficiency measures, including nearly $10 million of savings in the current fiscal year.  Savings have come from throughout the city organization and include organizational and administrative efficiencies, strategic rightsourcing, rebidding city contracts for a variety of personnel and operational costs, fleet and equipment streamlining and improved sales tax compliance. <a href="/district3site/Documents/Identified%20Savings%20for%20Task%20Force%20-June%2017,%202015.pdf">View the full list of total identified savings by the Innovation and Efficiency Task Force. </a><br><br>The Phoenix city manager created the Innovation and Efficiency Task Force in January 2010 to explore, develop and implement innovative processes to maximize use of taxpayer dollars in increase efficiency of city service delivery. The task force is comprised of representatives form a broad cross section of private industry, as well as heads of various city departments.
