Statement from Councilwoman Laura Pastor on the Swearing-In of Police Chief Jeri Williams and Commendation of Chief Joseph YahnerStatement from Councilwoman Laura Pastor on the Swearing-In of Police Chief Jeri Williams and Commendation of Chief Joseph Yahner

“I would like to congratulate the new Phoenix Police Chief Jeri L. Williams on being sworn in as the first woman to lead this agency in its more than 100-year history. Chief Williams is a decorated officer with more than 20 years of experience and is well-suited to lead this organization into its next phase of growth. As a Phoenician she brings to this position a deep understanding of our city, and as a Chief of Police elsewhere she has gained first-hand knowledge of the importance of community-based policing. I am confident she will foster and advance the trust that our community has placed in her to lead our city’s outstanding police force, and I welcome her back to Phoenix on this historic occasion.

I would also like to thank our outgoing Chief Joe Yahner for his many years of faithful service to our community. In the time I have had the opportunity to work with him, I have personally come to admire his professionalism and strong sense of ethics. He is leaving a police department much stronger than how he found it, and now places it in very capable hands who I am certain will continue to serve it well. Chief Yahner’s commitment to excellence in community service as well as the improved morale he helped create among the brave men and women he led during his tenure is a testament to his tremendous leadership and steadfast dedication to the people of the city of Phoenix.

I commend both Chief Williams and former Chief Yahner for their civic duty to our city, humbly extend my appreciation for their many years of public service, and wish both of them nothing but the absolute best in the years to come.”

10/31/2016 3:00:00 PMDavid Urbinato602-495-5405
