Councilwoman Laura Pastor, PUHSD Encourage DREAMers to Seek Dream.US College ScholarshipsCouncilwoman Laura Pastor, PUHSD Encourage DREAMers to Seek Dream.US College Scholarships<div class="ExternalClassB90917971B03454699F0D3FC97577744"><table cellspacing="0" width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default"><tbody><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:100%;"><p>Councilwoman Laura Pastor and the Phoenix Union High School District are teaming up to encourage DREAMer students working toward college to apply for Dream.US scholarships. The application period opened the week of Nov. 14, 2016 and runs into March 2017. </p><p>"We have so many hardworking DREAMers who know that education is the key to success," Councilwoman Pastor said. "These scholarships are a way for highly motivated DREAMer students to afford college and build their futures."</p><p>Students can find information and apply online at thedream.us/scholarships. Phoenix Union High School also is holding the following information sessions for interested students:</p><p>·         Carl Hayden H.S., 3333 W. Roosevelt St., on Nov. 19, from 10 to 11 a.m.</p><p>·         North High School, 1101 E. Thomas, on Dec. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m.</p><p>The Dream.US offers two scholarships. The National Scholarship is for high school or community college graduates and the Opportunity Scholarship is for students who live in targeted, locked-out states where they cannot get in-state tuition. Eligibility depends on where students live. The scholarships are available to scholars that have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Temporary Protected Status (TPS) that allows them to live and legally work in the United States.<br><br>In the past three years, the Dream.US scholarships have helped 1,700 students and provided $14 million in scholarship awards, with an additional $33 million in funds committed.
