Statement from Councilwoman Laura Pastor on Feedback from Police Community Meeting Statement from Councilwoman Laura Pastor on Feedback from Police Community Meeting

“I hear you. To those of you who attended the community hearing last night at Pilgrims Rest Church, I heard you.

As difficult as it was to hear the stories, we all needed to hear them, to hear you. I believe you, and I will continue to push for the changes you have called for.

The Community Police Trust Initiative (CPTI) offered solutions to many of the issues that we know are challenges for our city and our police department. Had we committed ourselves to fully implementing the tenets and recommendations of that report - we might have found ourselves in a much better state than we are in today.

Solving problems of this magnitude is going to require strong and decisive leadership. We must revisit our policies and take a good hard look at the ways we have been working to make the changes we need.

It won't be easy, but I am confident that this council, recently infused with new leadership and energy, will revisit the recommendations of the CPTI, including the formation of a civilian review body, and that you will soon see the changes you want to see in your city.

I hear you."

6/19/2019 4:20:00 PMNick Valenzuela 602-495-5405
