Councilman Daniel Valenzuela Announces He Will Resign From the City Council to Run for Mayor of PhoenixCouncilman Daniel Valenzuela Announces He Will Resign From the City Council to Run for Mayor of Phoenix<div class="ExternalClass8A8DB7EC48CD4F45BDC118EF6754BBAF"><p>​</p><table cellspacing="0" width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default"><tbody><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:100%;"><p>"This afternoon I sent <a href="http://lists.phoenix.gov/t/1378825/341392/21851/3/">a letter</a> to the City Clerk announcing I will resign from the Phoenix City Council at the close of business on Monday, July 16 as required by the Arizona Resign to Run Law.</p><p>For six years, I have been honored to serve as a member of the governing body of the city where I was born and raised. During this time, I have worked to make our city safer, strengthened our neighborhoods, provided regional leadership, and helped transform our economy through innovation and cultivating an environment where entrepreneurs can succeed.  </p><p>I want to thank my colleagues on the Phoenix City Council. While we may sometimes see things differently, a commitment to building a greater tomorrow is shared by all of us.  To city staff and the thousands of city employees who work tirelessly every day, thank you for your commitment to helping our citizens.</p><p>I also want to thank the many neighborhood leaders of District 5 who volunteer their time to champion our communities and work with the city to improve the lives of our families and neighbors.</p><p>We have many challenges ahead, hiring more first responders, creating greater job opportunities, making sure our youth have the skills they will need to succeed, finding solutions to reduce homelessness, making available affordable housing, the opioid crisis, and continuing our path toward building a sustainable city. </p></td></tr></tbody></table><p>I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the people of our city in the future."<br></p><p><br></p></div>7/7/2018 12:15:00 AMMatthew Heil602-534-0108
