I am a NO on Sanctuary City status for Phoenix.  I will never allow Phoenix to be like San Francisco, Chicago or New York. Never.<br><br></div><div>You have seen me write about the hypocrisy surrounding the mayor and councilmembers on the other side working behind the scenes to kill the sanctuary city proposal. It has been amusing to watch them say one thing in public about "protecting immigrant rights" then work behind closed doors to kill the proposal.<br><br></div><div>Today they have not disappointed me.<br><br></div><div>Here was my prediction on Facebook Feb. 1 at 2:47 p.m. within minutes after the petition was announced:</div><div>"`Rest assured City staff will work behind the scenes to find a way to kill this proposal before a public council vote.'"<br><br></div><div>Last night, staff released a report recommending denying the petition to vote on Sanctuary City status for Phoenix, saying it is unlawful and vague.<br><br></div><div>I firmly oppose this proposal, but it just shows you why the public has such a dislike for government and the politicians who promise one thing, and then do something else behind closed doors to protect their political careers.<br><br></div><div>Whether you are on the right or the left, these back door shenanigans should bother you.  Someday it will impact an issue you care about."</div><div><br></div><div>The City Council Report with staff recommendation is <a href="/cityclerksite/City%20Council%20Meeting%20Files/2-15-17%20FINAL%20Formal%20Agenda.pdf">available online</a>. </div></div>2/10/2017 4:00:00 PMDavid Urbinato602-495-5405
