Statement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on Approval of Development Bringing Grocery Store to Downtown Statement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on Approval of Development Bringing Grocery Store to Downtown <div class="ExternalClass0F5670F6F7D741D9811015E1B7B51DE9"><div>“The City Council voted late yesterday to approve a major development that will bring the first grocery store to Downtown Phoenix. I have advocated for a grocery store in downtown from my first days on the council, and as the councilmember that has represented our downtown the longest, I am proud of this vote and can’t wait to see work begin. It was one more victory for the Team Phoenix approach – staff from throughout the city worked together and with the private sector to create a project that will benefit us all.  <br><br></div><div>The opportunity to have a Fry’s in downtown is amazing news for current residents and those that will call it home in the future. A full-service grocery store makes it even easier for people to live, work and invest in our downtown and brings us a big step closer to what the sixth largest city in the nation should look like.<br><br></div><div>The proposed store would be 55,000 square feet to be built on the surface parking lot between Washington Street and Jefferson Avenue between CityScape Phoenix and the Collier Center. It also will bring a mixed-use development that will include 300 multi-family, for-rent housing units and 150,000 square feet of open office space to attract tech and innovation companies.”</div></div>10/6/2016 4:00:00 PMDavid Urbinato602-495-5405
