Statement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on South Central Light Rail Extension VoteStatement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on South Central Light Rail Extension Vote

"I have long supported and will continue to support the light rail, however, after hearing more than 5 hours of testimony this week, it is clear that a large portion of South Phoenix business owners and residents were not part of the engagement process.

Yesterday, Councilwoman Pastor and I made great efforts to allow a 90-day extensive grass root input process on the South Central Light Rail Extension. Residents and business owners of the South Phoenix community will now have the opportunity to participate in a renewed outreach process.

Throughout the next 90 days, an independent facilitator will be called upon to oversee the new process. During this time, we will still work to meet federal deadlines to keep the project moving forward while coming together as a community to collaborate and allow those along Central Avenue a fair and informative opportunity to provide a voice to their concerns of two lanes.

We are hopeful that in the next 90 days we will find a common ground. The light rail is an economic engine that will bring opportunity to a long deserving community."

6/21/2018 9:00:00 PMNick Valenzuela602-495-5405
