Statement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on Community Listening Meeting Statement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on Community Listening Meeting <div class="ExternalClass5564AB0DD9DF4A37A28AE07E08000768"><table cellspacing="0" width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default"><tbody><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:100%;">"I want to thank the more than 2,600 residents who took the time to join us tonight for an important discussion on how we may improve as a city and as a police department. Many of us have seen the incident that brought us together tonight and were appalled at the behavior demonstrated by the police officers involved. However, as I listened throughout the night it became clear that this was about far more. People took the time to come out and express their sadness and frustration with the Phoenix Police Department and city leadership. Despite these emotions, they made it evident that they want to be a part of the solution and I want to help. While I know the actions of a few are not representative of our entire police department, I also know that we must dig deeper into the issues that were brought up tonight. We must find ways to ensure we are more transparent and forthcoming with information and that we are holding our officers accountable to the highest of standards.  I look forward to continuing this dialogue with the community and working with the city leadership, Police Chief Williams, and my colleagues on the City Council to make meaningful change."<br><br><br></td></tr></tbody></table></div>6/19/2019 5:00:00 AMNick Valenzuela602-495-5405
