Statement by Councilwoman Kate Gallego Concerning City Council Approval of Phoenix Police Department Web-based Public Records PortalStatement by Councilwoman Kate Gallego Concerning City Council Approval of Phoenix Police Department Web-based Public Records Portal

"As chair of the Phoenix City Council's Efficiency Subcommittee, I see improving our public records process as one of the most significant opportunities to improve city operations. Residents should not have to wait months for the city to fulfill records request. Today's city council action to develop a digital records management system is an important step toward reducing the backlog, coupled with more appropriate staffing levels.

While I look forward to completion of the online records portal, our work will not be finished. I hope the city will invest in additional technology to help us manage our records. The city must make more improvements such as distinguishing between commercial and non-commercial uses, as well as priority for essential records. I am proud of the work my subcommittee has done on this issue, and we will remain diligent in enabling PPD to deliver a high-quality and responsive public records system for the public."

-- Phoenix District 8 Councilwoman Kate Gallego

4/19/2018 12:15:00 AMNick Valenzuela602-495-5405
