NEW DATE FOR OPENING SECTION 8 HOUSING PROGRAM WAIT LISTNEW DATE FOR OPENING SECTION 8 HOUSING PROGRAM WAIT LIST<div class="ExternalClassC0C37C35381F414CA92CC8963BA59423"><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">The city of Phoenix Housing Department has a new date for the opening of the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program wait list - Monday, August 8.   The online application process will now begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8 and run through Friday, Aug. 12, or until 10,000 applications are received.  </span></p><p> <span style="line-height:1.6;">The city is now opening the wait list in August instead of May to give more time to complete an upgrade to the online application process. This is the first time Phoenix has been able to offer the HCV program in an online platform.</span></p><p> <span style="line-height:1.6;">"Customer service comes first and in order to better serve our customers, especially those requesting language translation assistance, the online application requires an enhancement that will definitely strengthen this process," said Cindy Stotler, Housing Department Director.  "We are thrilled that Phoenix can now offer this program electronically versus having residents stand in long lines and fill out applications by hand.  We want this entire process to be a success and look forward to the new opening date in August."</span></p><p> <span style="line-height:1.6;">The city's HCV program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is available for low-income individuals and families to provide safe and decent affordable housing.  Program participants pay at least 30 percent of their adjusted gross monthly income toward their rent to a private landlord of their choice and the program will pay the landlord the remaining balance of the rent.  Families from the Section 8 wait list are selected in accordance with HUD requirements and local preferences.</span></p><p>For more information about the Section 8/HCV program, visit phoenix.gov/housing or call 602-534-1974.</p></div>5/18/2016 12:00:00 AMAlejandro Montiel, 602-534-3443Section 8 questions602-534-1974
