Section 8 Wait List Opening After 11 YearsSection 8 Wait List Opening After 11 Years<div class="ExternalClass7AA800F2993344E68174505565B2C7B6"><p>The city of Phoenix Housing Department will accept online applications for the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8 through 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14.  Once the pre-application period closes, 10,000 applicants will be randomly selected using a lottery system and will be placed on the wait list.  </p><p>"We are thrilled that Phoenix can now offer this program electronically versus having residents stand in long lines and fill out applications by hand," said Cindy Stotler, Housing Department Director.  "Customer service comes first and in order to better serve our customers, the online application will be offered in English and Spanish, residents will have several days to apply, and everyone will have an equal opportunity to get on the wait list through a lottery selection process." </p><p>The pre-application form must be completed online at phoenix.gov/housing via computer, tablet, or smartphone, unless a reasonable accommodation is requested by calling 602-262-7497.  Public facilities such as libraries and community centers will provide computer access at no cost.  </p><p>Please refer to the Section 8 Wait List Application Steps link available at phoenix.gov/housing for questions on how to complete the application.  For other questions and assistance, call the Section 8 wait list customer service line at 602-534-1887 beginning Monday, Aug. 8​</p><p>The city's HCV program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is available for low-income individuals and families to provide safe and decent affordable housing.  Program participants pay at least 30 percent of their adjusted gross monthly income toward their rent to a private landlord of their choice and the program pays the landlord the remaining balance of the rent.  Families from the Section 8 wait list are selected in accordance with HUD requirements and local preferences.</p><p>For more information about the Section 8/HCV program, visit phoenix.gov/housing.</p><p><em>The city of Phoenix Housing Department does not, in the provision of services or in any manner, discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, family status or disability.  Reasonable accommodations will be made for applicants with disabilities by calling 602-262-7497.  TTY-711 Friendly.</em></p></div>8/4/2016 6:00:00 PMAlejandro Montiel, 602-534-3443Section 8 Program602-262-7161
