City of Phoenix Extends Section 8 Application DeadlineCity of Phoenix Extends Section 8 Application Deadline<div class="ExternalClass5ABD9F9997A7442189E0EEA636645A37"><p>​<span style="line-height:1.6;">The city of Phoenix Housing Department has extended the deadline to accept online applications for the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program through 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. </span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">"After having the wait list open for five days now, we decided to extend the pre-application deadline to give residents, especially those with accessibility concerns, more time to complete the process," said Cindy Stotler, Housing Department Director.</span><span style="line-height:1.6;">  </span><span style="line-height:1.6;">"Extending the deadline definitely gives us the opportunity to help more people and we are very excited about that."</span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">T</span><span style="line-height:1.6;">he pre-application form must be completed online at </span><a href="/housing" style="line-height:1.6;">phoenix.gov/housing</a><span style="line-height:1.6;"> via computer, tablet, or smartphone, unless a reasonable accommodation is requested.</span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">"Since the planning stages of this process, we have done our best to make sure that the Section 8 pre-application process is accessible to all individuals and that it is inclusive of those with language barriers," said Nichole Ayoola, Section 8 Housing Manager.</span><span style="line-height:1.6;">  </span><span style="line-height:1.6;">"Applicants can access pre-application information and instructions in more than 50 different languages."</span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">The Section 8 Wait List Application Steps are available at </span><a href="/housing" style="line-height:1.6;">phoenix.gov/housing</a><span style="line-height:1.6;">.</span><span style="line-height:1.6;">  </span><span style="line-height:1.6;">Residents also can call the customer service line at 602-534-1887 for assistance, or 602-262-7497 for reasonable accommodations</span><span style="line-height:1.6;">.</span><span style="line-height:1.6;">  </span><span style="line-height:1.6;">Free language assistance services are available.</span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">Public facilities such as libraries and community centers are providing computer access at no cost.</span><span style="line-height:1.6;"> </span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">Once the pre-application period closes, 10,000 applicants will be randomly selected using a lottery system and will be placed on the wait list.  </span></p><p><span style="line-height:1.6;">For more information about the Section 8/HCV program, visit </span><a href="/housing" style="line-height:1.6;">phoenix.gov/housing</a><span style="line-height:1.6;">.</span></p><p><em style="line-height:1.6;">The city of Phoenix Housing Department does not, in the provision of services or in any manner, discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, family status or disability.  Reasonable accommodations will be made for applicants with disabilities by calling 602-262-7497.  TTY-711 Friendly.</em></p></div>8/12/2016 11:00:00 PMAlejandro Montiel, 602-534-3443Section 8 Program602-262-7161
