Stanton Statement on Council Approval of Plan to Curb Dark Money in Local ElectionsStanton Statement on Council Approval of Plan to Curb Dark Money in Local Elections

Mayor Greg Stanton released the following statement today regarding the City Council approving a proposed amendment to the City Charter to require the disclosure of so-called “dark money” in city elections:

“This is a historic moment for Phoenix,” said Stanton. “Secrecy and dark money stain our democratic process, and this plan will go a long way to maintain the public’s trust. Come November, I believe it will be very clear that this is not a partisan issue – that Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike all believe we should do more to make our elections more transparent. I appreciate the leadership of Councilwoman Kate Gallego, who through her subcommittee has worked hard to craft the right plan for the voters to consider.”

The proposed amendment to the City Charter will now be referred to voters at the Nov. 6, 2018 election.

5/2/2018 7:00:00 AMRaquel Estupinan602-261-8823
