City Council Approves Balanced BudgetCity Council Approves Balanced Budget<div class="ExternalClassA8CF886688A44D99970128B31894CE94"><div>PHOENIX – The City Council today approved the City Manager’s Proposed 2018-2019 Budget with a 6 to 1 vote.  The Council-approved balanced budget makes significant additional investments in public safety, homelessness intervention, infrastructure, and other important community services including neighborhoods, arts and libraries.</div><div></div><div>“This balanced budget is critical to keeping our economy strong and our neighborhoods safe,” said Mayor Thelda Williams. “I want to thank our residents who showed up and provided their input, and our city staff – especially City Manager Ed Zuercher and Budget Director Jeff Barton – who did an excellent job putting this budget together.”<br><br>This year’s budget<br></div><ul><li>Adds five civilian positions to support the Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center.</li><li>Includes funding and staffing to construct Fire Station 55 located at Interstate 17 and Jomax Road. </li><li>Boosts funding for the CASS Homeless Shelter to augment case management, and adds resources and staff needed to clean up homelessness sites.</li><li>Adds two new park ranger positions to assist with monitoring and enforcing park rules and provide additional support to the PHX C.A.R.E.S. program as it relates to homelessness issues in city parks. </li><li>Enhances the City’s efforts to make a Latino Cultural Center a reality. </li><li>Restores funding for the Arts Grant Program to pre-recession levels.</li><li>Permanently adds Sunday hours to four library branches.</li><li>Creates a Pedestrian Safety Coordinator position, which will work with the multi-department Pedestrian Fatality Review Team to conduct studies and implement enforcement strategies with the goal of improving pedestrian safety.</li><li>Increases the pavement and traffic management programs to accelerate street improvements citywide. <br></li></ul><div style="text-align:center;">-30-<br></div></div>6/27/2018 11:00:00 PMRaquel Estupinan(602) 261-8823
