Williams Statement on Council Approving Water RatesWilliams Statement on Council Approving Water Rates<div class="ExternalClass68BF89C390434747ADB913BC277094AD">Mayor Thelda Williams released the following statement after the Council approved new water rates Wednesday afternoon:<div><br></div><div>"Water is our most precious resource, and it's becoming more scarce. The Colorado River is on the brink of collapse, and that has serious consequences for Phoenix. It means without more specialized infrastructure, there may be a point when we no longer have the ability to deliver water to homes and businesses in north Phoenix.  <br><br>We have an obligation to make investments to make sure that doesn't happen. <br><br>I'm proud that in Phoenix we have a long history of leading the way when it comes to water. Especially over the last several years, we've launched some of the most forward-thinking planning in the state. And we've done that while keeping rates low. Over the last decade, water rates have only gone up a few times. Phoenix ratepayers pay nearly half the cost of water as compared to ratepayers in other large cities across the country. <br><br>Approving this plan for our water future is the right thing to do. It's an essential investment in our future, our economy and our quality of life."  <br><div style="text-align:center;">-30-<br></div></div></div>1/9/2019 11:10:00 PMRaquel Estupinan(602) 261-8823
