FitPHX Meet Me Downtown "Birthday Bash" Set for Nov. 6FitPHX Meet Me Downtown "Birthday Bash" Set for Nov. 6<div class="ExternalClass4CCCCC3558E9490BB8AD7FD086BD1D02"><p>​<a href="/parks/fitphx" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">FitPHX</span></a>, the city of Phoenix's healthy-living initiative, invites the community to a "Birthday Bash" to celebrate year three of the weekly <a href="https://www.meetmedowntownphx.com/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Meet Me Downtown Phoenix</span></a> (MMDT) event, sponsored by <a href="https://www.azblue.com/individualsandfamilies" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona</span></a> (BCBSAZ). The "Birthday Bash" will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at <a href="http://thepark.bar/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Park</span></a> restaurant, 3 S. Second St.</p><p>MMDT is a free 3.3-mile social, non-competitive walk/run held every Monday night regardless of weather or holidays. It begins and ends at The Park, and routes participants through Heritage Square, Civic Space and Margaret T. Hance parks, as well as past numerous businesses, restaurants and landmarks. Special activities are always planned along the route.</p><p>Each week, participants check in at The Park before heading out to walk or run the downtown cityscape. A "MMDTPHX" hand stamp provides identification for discounts at numerous participating restaurants and businesses. A free raffle is held at the end of the night for a variety of gift certificates and other prizes.</p><p>MMDT started on Nov. 10, 2014, and this year's "Birthday Bash" will be the 155th consecutive Monday night the event has been held. Since its inception, more than 21,000 people have checked in and participated.</p><p>BCBSAZ is title sponsor, while operating partners are FitPHX, <a href="http://phxparksfoundation.org/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Phoenix Parks Foundation</span></a>, <a href="http://dtphx.org/about/downtown-phoenix-inc/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Downtown Phoenix Inc.</span></a> (DPI), <a href="http://www.solesportsrunning.com/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Sole Sports Running Zone</span></a>, and <a href="https://www.meetmeconcepts.com/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Meet Me Concepts</span></a>. <a href="https://www.bbvacompass.com/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">BBVA Compass Bank</span></a> is a community partner.</p><p>"This public-private partnership was created to promote exercise and expose people to Phoenix's vibrant downtown," Councilman Daniel Valenzuela said. "Thousands of residents have taken advantage of this great opportunity to get out and get healthier while supporting and exploring their local downtown."</p><p>This year's "Birthday Bash" will feature an appearance by the <a href="http://www.discoverytriangle.org/fresh-express.html" target="_blank">Fresh Express bus</a>, part of BCBSAZ's "Nourishing Arizona" education program which brings individuals and businesses together with the goal of healthy nutritional changes statewide.</p><p>"We invite the community to join our Nourishing Arizona Sugar Swap event to replace your sugary foods with fruits and vegetables," said BCBSAZ Vice President Jennifer Kaufman. "Bring us your sugary foods, with 7 grams of sugar or more, and receive $5 in healthy bucks <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">t</span>o purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from Fresh Express while attending the Birthday Bash." </p><p>The Fresh Express bus will be parked outside The Park from 5 to 7 p.m.</p><p>A Birthday Bash game will delight the audience, with physical elements, such as hop scotch and jump rope, combined with some quiz questions about food and healthy eating. Players will have a chance to win extra raffle tickets for more than 20 prizes.</p><p>Created in 2013, the FitPHX initiative is led by Mayor Greg Stanton, Councilman Valenzuela and Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman, with the goal of improving health and wellness in the region and making the Phoenix area one of the healthiest in the nation. The initiative has created innovative collaborations between government, private sector, non-profits and universities to develop programming that gives citizens tools and education to be healthier.</p></div>11/2/2017 9:30:00 PMAnissa Jonovich, FitPHX Coordinator602-262-6864
