Another Milestone on Northwest Phoenix Light Rail Extension Another Milestone on Northwest Phoenix Light Rail Extension <div class="ExternalClass7D11D1ED8B3147C78E8CBC9114906476"><p>​D<em>ec. 10: Train Testing Event and Opening Announcement </em></p><p>Travel along 19th Avenue, north of Bethany Home Road, and you will see Valley Metro Rail conducting tests preparing for the opening of the next extension. </p><p>On Thursday, Dec. 10, Valley Metro will mark the arrival of trains with a milestone event, which will include an opening date announcement.</p><p>"It's exciting to see the trains moving farther north on 19th Avenue getting ready to connect to new businesses, schools and neighborhoods," said Phoenix Councilmember and Valley Metro Rail Board Chair Thelda Williams. "Testing of the system is a critical next step before service begins in 2016." </p><p>The 3.2-mile project extends light rail north on 19th Avenue between Montebello and Dunlap avenues, and includes light rail stations at Glendale, Northern and Dunlap avenues.</p><p>"This is a transformative milestone for the entire community and the region as Valley Metro Rail adds three new miles of service," said Phoenix Vice Mayor Daniel Valenzuela. "Light rail has a proven track record of attracting and generating positive economic impact. Public transportation is a vital resource for our residents and provides connectivity to our small businesses, educational institutions and many important destinations.
