Phoenix Reminds Residents to Recycle Right this Holiday SeasonPhoenix Reminds Residents to Recycle Right this Holiday Season<div class="ExternalClass0ECC554402F94AFC8AC353AFEA3E14E2"><p></p><p>During the holiday season, the amount of waste produced by households increases by 25 percent. To help decrease the amount of waste produced, the Phoenix Public Works Department is urging residents to adopt proper sustainable practices during the upcoming holidays.   </p><ul><li>Use cloth napkins and silverware rather than paper napkins and plastic utensils.</li><li>Use gift bags rather than wrapping paper because gift bags can be re-used many times.</li><li>If you have to use wrapping paper, choose the kind that doesn't have cloth, felt, glitter and/or metal embellishments. Embellished paper cannot be recycled properly.</li><li>Have fun with wrapping and use old magazines, comic strips, maps, etc. to wrap presents.</li><li>Give holiday cards that are made of recycled paper and avoid those that have embellishments, such as glitter, on it.</li><li>When sending packages to loved ones, use shredded paper or old newspapers to pack the items instead of polystyrene foam. </li><li>Bring reusable shopping bags for groceries and holiday shopping.
