Grand Canalscape Project Reaches Major Milestone With New Pedestrian Bridges Now in PlaceGrand Canalscape Project Reaches Major Milestone With New Pedestrian Bridges Now in Place<div class="ExternalClassBB8E3C3D773042359A34FE2D39F2A6F4"><p>​<img src="/streetssite/MediaAssets/Bridges%20with%20Logo.JPG" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:616px;height:278px;vertical-align:auto;float:right;" />Progress continues on the <a href="http://www.grandcanalscape.com/"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Grand Canalscape Project</span></a> – a 10.5-mile multi-use trail system along the Grand Canal from 1-17 to the Phoenix/Tempe border.  </p><p>This last week the project reached a major milestone with the installation of two pedestrian bridges. The newly installed pedestrian bridges are located across the Grand Canal between 36<sup>th</sup> and 37<sup>th</sup> streets near David Crockett Elementary School and east of 44<sup>th</sup> Street near Pueblo Grande Museum.  </p><p><strong style="background-color:yellow;">UPDATE</strong></p><p><span style="background-color:yellow;">The bridge located between 36th and 37th streets is open. The opening date for the bridge located east of 44th Street remains to be determined.    </span></p><p>As part of this project, three additional pedestrian bridges are slated to be installed by early fall 2019. They will be installed west of 44<sup>th</sup> Street near the Phoenix Sky Train station, north of McDowell Road near Creighton Elementary School and east of Central Avenue near Brophy and Central high schools.  </p><p>To create a safe and reliable commuting and recreational transportation option along the Grand Canal, this project also features LED canal pathway lighting and pedestrian-activated traffic signals (also known as HAWKs) where major arterial streets intersect with the Grand Canal; including shade canopies, landscaping, pavers and artist designed benches.   </p><p>The Grand Canalscape project is scheduled to be completed by fall 2019.  </p><p>For more information about this project visit <a href="http://www.grandcanalscape.com/"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">grandcanalscape.com</span></a>.  </p></div>4/29/2019 7:00:00 AMMonica Hernandez602-350/8853
