Statement from Councilman Nowakowski on Temporary Heat Respite Center at the Phoenix Convention Centerhttps://www.phoenix.gov/newsroom/district-7/1288City Council District 75/29/2020 3:55:00 PMhttps://www.phoenix.gov/newssite/Lists/NewsArticle/Attachments/1288/Newsroom_Council_Statement_07.jpgStatement from Councilman Nowakowski on Temporary Heat Respite Center at the Phoenix Convention Center

“Today, the City of Phoenix will open the Phoenix Convention Center as a temporary heat respite shelter to help our homeless population during the extreme heat this upcoming weekend.

The Heat of the Day Respite Center will be open through June 1 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, and will provide a cool, safe place for our most vulnerable to rest comfortably and be provided water and meals. CDC recommendations, including ongoing cleanings will be upheld to keep everyone safe and healthy.

I'd like to thank Mayor Gallego for her leadership on this issue and I am extremely proud of the decision to use a city facility that is not being utilized due to the COVID-19 pandemic to help our residents. The partnership across multiple city departments to make this happen quickly is another great example of the 'Team Phoenix' approach, when we all work together, we can make a difference for those who need it most."

https://www.phoenix.gov/district7Newsdistrict-7District 7 Feature Image District 7MichaelNowakowskiStephanie Bracken602-769-0717602-495-5405stephanie.bracken@phoenix.govhttps://www.phoenix.gov/newssite/Lists/MediaContact/Attachments/42/Stephanie_Bracken.jpgPhxDistrict7
