After a year of being closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, we would like to welcome our guests to join us in our newly renovated and air-conditioned galleries! We encourage you to come early if you would like to enjoy a stroll through the ancient village site of Pueblo Grande. Explore our galleries to learn about the ancestral O’odham, the science of archaeology, and the history of this special place. </span><br style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:14.6667px;"><span style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:14.6667px;"> </span><br style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:14.6667px;"><span style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:14.6667px;"> The Museum will reopen with a beautiful new exhibition, <em>Rights and Resilience: Celebrating Native American Women</em>. This powerful exhibition is devoted solely to Native American women who fight for their people, their place, and their heritage. Rights and Resilience will be on view in the newly renovated Community Gallery and will be open to the public until September 19th, 2021. Despite warfare, cultural assimilation, and persecution these resilient women inspire fresh perspectives and thoughtful conversations and embody continuity.<em> Rights and Resilience</em> exhibit features ethnographic objects and several powerful artworks from contemporary artists. This exhibition also presents a virtual program, which features a special visitor and indigenous women’s rights advocate, Rosetta Walker, who stopped by the show and spoke with Exhibit Designer Kim Nishihara about the powerful messages included in the exhibit. On July 27, 2021, the CDC updated that guidance to require masking indoors in communities with substantial or high virus transmission rates, regardless of vaccination status. Effective Monday, August 2, 2021​, masks are required in all city buildings. This program will be utilizing American Rescue Plan Act dollars. As staff continues to develop the program, below are several Frequently Asked Questions that provides current information. As new information is available, it will be posted here. <br><br><strong>What is this program?</strong><br><br>On Sept. 21, 2021, Phoenix City Council approved allocating $12 million for the Financial Assistance for Phoenix Families Pilot Program. Under this 12 month pilot program, 1,000 Phoenix families with children will be selected to receive a $1,000 stipend to use on household expenses, such as childcare, groceries, rent/utility bills, transportation, etc.<br><br><strong>Who is eligible for the program and how can I apply?</strong><br><br>There will be no application for the pilot program. Families with children who have applied for Emergency Rental Assistance, reside in city-owned public housing, or have a Section 8 voucher will be randomly selected via lottery system and will be asked to participate. Participants must live and remain living in the City of Phoenix during this program.<br><br><strong>How will participants receive the money each month?</strong> <br><br>Staff is currently working with vendors to provide a debit card to each participant. Funds will be loaded onto the card each month. <br><br><strong>Are there restrictions to what can be purchased with the debit card?</strong><br><br>There will be certain items that participants will be unable to purchase, such as alcohol, tobacco products, and lottery tickets.<br><br><strong>Will the purchases be tracked?</strong><br><br>Yes, purchases will be tracked for reporting purposes and to assist with the program evaluation. Staff is currently working to screen potential vendors that can provide a debit card solution with technology needed to ensure proper reporting and follows US Treasury guidance.<br><br>There will be no reporting on personal identification information for participants in the program.<br><br><strong>How is the City funding this program?</strong><br><br>The pilot program will be funded by American Rescue Plan Act federal dollars.<br><br><strong>When will participants be selected?</strong><br><br>Staff is currently exploring options for program administration and hope to start the program by January 2022.
