Farmland Preservation Program
This program seeks to achieve healthy food for all and a long term resilient system by conserving agricultural property within the City of Phoenix. In partnership with nonprofits and land trusts, this allocation assists in purchasing and preserving land for agriculture in Phoenix.
The Central Arizona Land Trust (CALT) is serving as the administrator of the program as approved by Phoenix City Council. CALT is the subrecipient to place conservation easements on up to three farms with willing landowners (to be the qualified organization to hold the development rights per A.R.S. §33-271, et seq.).
Through the Farmland Preservation Program, CALT placed a conservation easement on Maya's Farm in March 2022, which will ensure that land is strictly used for agriculture purposes now and in the future.
