Through a unique partnership with the city of Phoenix, the Save Our Mountains Foundation is now operating the North Mountain Visitor Center. The Foundation is operating the center with the support of three non-profit partners: the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association; the Phoenix Mountains Preservation Council; and the Central Arizona Mountain Rescue Association.

The center is now open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Visitors can enjoy educational displays to interpret and understand the Sonoran Desert found right outside the center's doors. A series of trails adjacent to the center mean desert exploration is just a step away. The center is also a good stop for those planning a longer, more challenging hike in this part of the preserve.

While at the center, you can:

  • Find trail maps for information on hikes or mountain bike rides in the area.
  • Pick up brochures and pamphlets on a variety of topics related to the Sonoran Desert and the City of Phoenix mountain preserve system.
  • Book a school field trip visit.
