The trees will add shade throughout the 37-acre park.

Funding for the project was made possible thanks to a grant and partnership between the city's FitPHX initiative, ParkRx Arizona, Vitalyst Health Foundation, Maricopa County Department of Public Health, Arizona Community Tree Council, HonorHealth, and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

Through the partnership, healthcare and social service providers "prescribe" to their patients to get outside, enjoy nature and spend time at a local park. The ParkRx Arizona initiative supports enhancements that make parks more inviting for community members to explore.

To date this year, more than 500 trees have been planted on City of Phoenix park property. As the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department continually works to expand the city's shade tree canopy, it has planted an average of 1,500 trees during each of the last four years.

In March, Phoenix was one of 120 cities worldwide to be recognized on the Arbor Day Foundation's "Tree Cities of the World" listing. The city also has been distinguished by the Arbor Day Foundation as “Tree City USA" for 35 consecutive years.

https://www.phoenix.gov/parksNews
