Helping Mary

"Helping Mary" is Planning and Development's Building Safety Month 2020 Project. Mary was identified through the Neighborhood Services Department. In October 2019, her home caught fire after she hired an unlicensed contractor. Since that time, there has been no electricity to the home and the damage to the ceiling remains. Inspections Field Supervisor Don Councilor is heading the effort to restore Mary's home in a community effort. Already contractors are donating time and materials to make this home liveable again.  Follow along the progress here!

Nearly 95 percent of the roof is complete at Mary's home in the sixth week of work to restore her home. The Plumbing Company was out this week to make repairs, restore the master bath and install the new hot water heater. Dumpster Dudes donated a dumpster to help with the removal of construction debris. There is still more work to do. Check back here for more progress.

Workers have been steadily making progress at Mary's home.  Vargas and Sons Concrete Specialists LLC created a slab for her new water heater, while Top Onyx Premiere Granite and Fabrication started measurements and work to redo the tile in her shower. Gable Family Builders is the General Contract who anticipates work on the roof should start soon. Check out the latest video below.

This week we have the pleasure of introducing you to Mary. She took time to talk to us on camera about the damage to the home and what it means to see so many people coming together on her behalf. Watch the video below!

This week The Plubming Company, Patterson Construction and Gable Family Builders were all on site making repairs and doing measurements for the eventual replacement of her roof.

Late last week, SRP and Commercial Comm. Electric made some critical repairs and restored power.  SRP was able to help her explore available options and get permits and documents submitted. SRP preapproved using $500 SRP Weatherization Assistance Funds  (WAP) to pay for those permits and leveraged those with city of Phoenix WAP funds

Day 8, contractors, Gable Family Builders and LeBlanc Building Co. Inc. began assessing the work for repairs to Mary's home. In addition to the fire repairs, the full roof will also be replaced. Commercial Comm. Electrial restored power to the home and a portable air conditioner and refrigerator was installed.

Inspectors are using the Permit by Inspector program to expedite some of the work. That allows for the plan review and inspections to be conducted on-site and is a valuable tool for all customers. Today, power was restored and a portable air conditioner, a refridgerator and a t.v. were put in place.
