Reimagine Phoenix: Ways to Reconsider
Your trash is someone else’s treasure. Reconsider what you need every so often, then donate your unused stuff to a second-hand store like Goodwill or The Salvation Army or a local charity.
Shop second-hand with pride. By the same token, what goes around comes around. Think about shopping for that cool sweater or Halloween costume at your local Goodwill or The Salvation Army store before buying new.
Buy in bulk. Purchase food from bulk bins and save money and packaging.

Invest in quality. You might pay for more now, but you’ll be happy when you don’t have to replace the items as frequently. Also when buying high-quality, long-lasting products it means less waste too.
Example: Switch to using energy saving light bulbs. They’ll save you money on your electricity bill and reduce the number of light bulbs that end up in the trash.
Example: When it comes to washing machines, invest in an Energy Star or a WaterSense model. These products conserve on water and use less electricity and you’ll save money on energy and water bills.
Refill your bottles. Refill your shampoo and conditioner bottles with bulk shampoo and conditioner.
Single-use or rechargeable batteries, that is the question. The answer is it depends on what you are going to use it for.

Use inexpensive, biodegradable cleaners like: white vinegar & lemon juice (which cut grease); baking soda (which cleans, deodorizes, softens water & boosts the cleaning power of soap); washing soda (which disinfects, cuts grease and removes stains); borax (which softens water, cleans, deodorizes, disinfects and also kills insects).
Clean paint brushes with hot vinegar instead of paint thinner.
Take the bus to work. Saves on gas and helps the environment.
