​​As part of the Street Transportation Department’s core mission, we strive to improve the City’s roadways to create a safe and efficient transportation network. Our ongoing pavement maintenance program provides opportunities to change the current traffic lane striping to improve safety for people who walk, drive, ride bicycles and use transit. 

With bicycle lane projects, where there is enough space on the roadway, bicycle lanes or buffered bicycle lanes are added. The proposed bicycle lanes also provide connectivity between other nearby bicycle lanes. These types of projects do not require a public meeting as the number of motor vehicle lanes remains the same, and also does not remove or adds parking.
