44th Street Bridge at the Arizona Canal

The city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department is set to begin construction of pedestrian traffic signal crossing improvements at 44th Street and the Arizona Canal. The purpose of this project is to increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists who need to cross 44th Street to continue along the Arizona Canal. This project will be broken down into two phases, with Phase I beginning on June 22, 2020 with an estimated completion date in late July 2020.

Phase I of this improvement project will include the installation of two signal poles and crosswalks on each side of the Arizona Canal in addition to the reconstruction of the sidewalk and the four canal driveway ramps.

Phase II of the project will take place in late Fall 2020 and will include a new asphalt overlay on the bridge deck.

What to Expect

There will be partial closures of 44th Street. The road will remain open with traffic restrictions in both directions or on alternating sides..
