Planned Major Street Restrictions and Closures

August 9, 2018 Update

The information included in this listing only represents the major planned activities reported to the Street Transportation Department Right of Way Management Office. This listing does not reflect unplanned restrictions or closures associated with flooding, traffic collisions, fires, utility failures or other emergencies.

The traveling public is advised to be aware of the following planned major street restrictions and closures.

New Restrictions

Bell Road - 18th Street to 20th Street

Bell Road between 18th and 20th streets will be reduced to one lane in each direction, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug. 12.
 
This restriction is required to accommodate pavement restoration work.

 
Monroe Street - First Avenue to Second Avenue

Monroe Street between First and Second avenues will be closed in both directions, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11.

Business access will be maintained.

This restriction is required to accommodate utility installation activity.


Van Buren Street - 31st Avenue to 27th Avenue

Van Buren Street between 31st and 27th avenues will be restricted on a 24-hour basis, starting 6 a.m., Monday, Aug. 13 through Friday, Oct. 19.

Left turns will be restricted through the area.

Local and business access will be maintained.

This restriction is required to accommodate water main related work. 


35th Avenue - Broadway Road to Tamarisk Avenue

Northbound and southbound 35st Avenue from Broadway Road to Tamarisk Avenue will be restricted to one through lane 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.

Motorist are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this restriction.

This restriction is in place to accommodate a city of Phoenix capital improvement project.


Special Events

ASU Student Move-In
This event will take place from 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, through 6 a. m. Monday, Aug. 13.
 
The annual move-in for Arizona State University Downtown will take place in the area bounded by Central Avenue, Second, Polk and Fillmore streets.
 
The following streets will be closed on a 24-hour basis beginning 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 through 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14:

  • Fillmore Street (eastbound only) – Central Avenue to Second Street
  • Second Street – Polk to Fillmore streets
  • First Street – Polk to Fillmore streets
  • Polk Street – Central Avenue to First Street

Police will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
All streets will re-open to normal traffic by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.


CITYSCAPE – H2OASIS

This event will take place Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Central Avenue between Washington and Jefferson streets will be closed Saturday, Aug. 11 beginning at 6 a.m. through 6 p.m.


Central Avenue will reopen to normal traffic at 6 p.m.

Seventh Avenue – Georgia Avenue to Oregon Avenue


Seventh Avenue – Rose Lane to McLellan Boulevard

Continuing Restrictions

Air Lane - 36th Street to 40th Street, daily partial restrictions, 24 hours a day through September 2018. For additional information about this project, call the project hotline at 602-553-0005.


Bethany Home Road at Seventh Street, partial lane restrictions will be in place through August 2018.   


Broadway Road - 91st Avenue to 99th Avenue, remains closed, 24 hours a day, through Friday, August 2018. This restriction is required to accommodate a city of Phoenix, Planning and Development Department project.  For additional information about this project, call the hotline at 602-750-2631.


Broadway Road “Avenida Rio Salado” - Seventh Street to 51st Avenue, intermittent partial restrictions to accommodate a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project. This closure/restriction is scheduled to be removed February 2019. For additional information about this project, visit avenidariosalado.com.


Camelback Road - 103rd Avenue to 105th Avenue, partial restrictions in place through Auguest 2018. These restrictions will be in place to accommodate a sewer line rehabilitation work.


First Street - Washington Street to Jefferson Street, is closed in both directions, through September 2018. This closure is in place to accommodate a private development project overseen by the city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department.


First Street - Washington Street to Jefferson Street, northbound First Street is closed to accommodate a private development project overseen by the city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department. This closure/restriction is scheduled to be removed in December 2019.


Indian School Road at 16th Street, eastbound and westbound is restricted to one lane on a 24-hour basis through September 2018. Bike lanes in this area will remain closed. This restriction is in place to accommodate the Grand Canalscape construction work. For additional information about this project, call the project hotline at 623-825-3444.


Indian School Road and 28th Street, is reduced to one lane in each direction from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays through August 31.


Liberty Lane - Desert Foothills Parkway to 24th Street, westbound will remain closed on a 24-hour basis, through October 2018. This restriction is required for construction related to the Loop 202 freeway. Connect 202 Partners is managing the project. Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) Construction Project: 59th Avenue - Interstate 10 to Estrella Drive and Pecos Road - 48th Street to 59th Avenue, intermittent closures to accommodate the Arizona Department of Transportation Loop 202 Freeway Project. This closure/restriction is scheduled to be removed in November 2019. McDowell Road - 36th Street to 44th Street, partial restrictions to accommodate the installation of a new storm drain, the hotline number is 480-281-1506. Restrictions will remain in place through August 2018. 


McKinley Street - Central Avenue to First Avenue, full closure to accommodate a private development project overseen by the city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department. Roosevelt Street - 59th Avenue to 57th Avenue, intermittent restrictions and overnight closures for construction related to the Arizona Department of Transportation Loop 202 freeway project. Closure will remain in place through December 2018. Second Street - Washington Street to Jefferson Street, southbound closure to accommodate a private development project overseen by the city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department. This closure/restriction is scheduled to be removed in December 2019.


Seventh Street - Lincoln Street to Mohave Street, partial restrictions to accommodate a new waterline installation by the city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department. Restrictions will remain in place through October 2018.


Seventh Street - Thunderbird Road to Peoria Avenue, partial restriction to accommodate the reconstruction of the North Mountain Tower Road. This closure/restriction is scheduled to be removed December 2018.


Van Buren Street - 40th Street to 44th Street, partial restrictions through August 2018. Restrictions are in place for the installation of a Southwest Gas utility work, the hotline number is 602-532-6100.


Washington Street to Jefferson Street - First Street to Second Street, partial restrictions to accommodate a private development project. This closure/restriction is scheduled to be removed in December 2019.


Washington Street - 48th Street to 51st Street, daytime partial restriction to accommodate a Valley Metro Light Rail station construction project. 16th Street - Wahalla Lane to Beardsley Road, is closed weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 11. This closure is required to accommodate new waterline construction work.


24th Street - Camelback Road to Osborn Road, partial restrictions to accommodate a Southwest Gas utility project. Restrictions will remain in place through August 2018. For additional information about this project, call the project hotline at 602-532-6100.


27th Avenue - Camelback Road to Bethany Home Road, is restricted, on a 24-hour basis through September 2018 to accommodate the installation of a new gas line for Southwest Gas Corporation.


27th Avenue - Indian School Road to Encanto Boulevard, is restricted, on a 24-hour basis, through December of 2018 to accommodate the installation of a new gas line for Southwest Gas Corporation. 


44th Street - McDonald Drive to Camelback Road, partial restrictions through August 2018.  Restrictions are in place for Southwest Gas construction work. The hotline number is 623-825-3444.


51st Avenue at Broadway Road, partial restrictions through early August 2018. For additional information about this project, call the project hotline number at 623-825-3444.


59th Avenue - Roosevelt Street to Interstate 10, partial restriction to accommodate the Arizona Department of Transportation Loop 202 Freeway Project. This closure/restriction is scheduled to remain in place through 2019. 79th Avenue - Roosevelt Street to Van Buren Street, will remain closed through Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. This closure/restriction is required for construction related to a private development project.
