Artist Leticia Huerta designed and oversaw the construction of bus shelter improvements as part of streetscape enhancements along 67th Avenue from McDowell to Camelback. Huerta renovated multiple existing shelters by including new, artist-designed panels, two-color paint, landscaping, and – where space permitted – vertical shade screens. These elements are meant to add comfort, color, and much needed shade in the area.

Huerta worked closely with the community during the design process. The perforated pattern is based on the Mexican Bird of Paradise, a plant popular in the neighborhood. She also recommended adding these plants to the shelter areas to add color and echo the pattern of the shelter panels.

This project was a collaboration between the City's Office of Arts and Culture, Street Transportation Department, Public Transit Department and the City's West Valley Revitalization efforts.
