Nov 5: Basic Business Practices for Artists
If you feel overwhelmed by the idea of treating your artistic practice as a business, this is the session for you! Join us for a conversation about easy-to-implement business practices that you can adopt to make life easier . . . and hopefully more productive and lucrative! This workshop will address best business practices for artists in this one-hour session. Plenty of time for questions and answers at the end.
Nov 12: Dealing with Conflict
One of the most stressful aspects of running your own art business can be facing conflict. But it is important to develop the subtle art of addressing conflict with grace and ease. Join us for the second in our series of practical skills for artists. This session will spend the hour sharing some tips and tricks for resolving conflicts before they get too heated! Bring your questions and concerns about navigating challenges and how to keep your cool.
Nov 19: Online Business Set Up
One silver lining of the last year’s challenges is that artists are feeling empowered to start up their own online galleries and shops. This informative session will explore some of the advantages and pitfalls of online businesses. Join us while we look at the options available to artists who want to strike out on their own using a variety of online platforms. This week, we will introduce options and considerations for online businesses during this session. This one-hour session will give you all the tools you need to get started and leave ample time for questions.
Dec 3: Intellectual Property
Understanding the boundaries of protecting one’s artistic expression can be tricky. This session will explore copyright law—and a little trademark too. We will cover everything from the registration process, to what the “fair” in “fair use” actually means! Don’t miss this invaluable adventure into the intricacies of intellectual property rights for artists. This final workshop will spend the hour demystifying the complexities of copyright and answering your questions.

About the Presenter
Sarah Conley Odenkirk is the founder of ArtConverge and has practiced law in the area of fine art for more than 25 years. She advises clients in transactional and policy matters related to all aspects of art business in the private and public realms, and provides cultural strategy guidance through a legal lens. Sarah is the author of A Surprisingly Interesting Book About Contracts for Artists and Other Creatives; and publisher of an online database and the comprehensive Resource Guide for Public Art in Private Development. She is a frequent speaker at professional conferences in both the legal and art fields.
