Meet the supervisor

Senior Director for Social Responsibility & Inclusion Kevina Devereaux

I joined Desert Botanical Garden in 2019 in the Human Resources department as the Manager of Workforce Development & Diversity. In 2021, I was promoted to the Executive Leadership Team as the Senior Director of Social Responsibility & Inclusion. In my role, I remove systemic barriers and provide access for underrepresented communities through community partnerships, the creation of policies, and programming. I have a servant leadership style. I like to listen to my employees and value their input. I check in on my direct reports to ensure they are grasping their work and see if they need additional resources to succeed in their role. I like to give employees autonomy to make decisions but will step in to coach and guide where required. I value inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility, and I create strategies based on those lenses. When creating a project, I ask, are we being inclusive enough? Are there any gaps in our outreach? I must take an extra step to ensure we bridge gaps and amplify voices for underrepresented communities.

In my role, I work directly with Desert Botanical Garden’s Executive Director and collaborate with all departments in the Garden. The experience the student worker will receive is vast. They will work directly with Executive Leadership on operations, marketing, programming, and development. The student worker will gain invaluable experience and will understand how to work in every area while using a DEI lens.
