What you'll do

The student worker will have creative tasks such as curating social media posts and reels. There will also be event coordinating responsibilities such as seting up and break down of tables and chairs.

Executive Director Kema Charles

Kema Charles started her career in the entertainment industry in 1999. She has a degree in Media Arts from LA Valley College and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from University of West Florida. In her position as Executive Director, Kema provides the oversight and overall management, planning, vision, and leadership for all aspects of Light Camera Discover. This includes programs, finances, resource development, human resources, member services, communication, and board development. She works with the board to set goals to work to achieve our vision, mission, policies, strategic focus, priorities, and general scope of programs.

Lights Camera Discover is a community of people who believe in the creative ability and future potential of youth who are sometimes overlooked.  Empowering creativity and individuality from concept to completion through mentorship and education in arts technology.  As part of our efforts to give youth a voice through the media arts, Lights Camera Discover offers an on-going program to train local youth in digital storytelling and animation productions. Lights Camera Discover is an award winning year-round program in which students learn filmmaking and animation basics alongside anti-bullying and social awareness. During our sessions, students get to create projects of their own.   ​

About the program

The Phoenix ArtCorps​​

The Phoenix ArtCorps is a student employment program from the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture  that seeks to provide students with​ the comprehensive skills, mentorship, and experience ​they need to launch their arts and culture careers. Over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year​, each student works 400 hours for $17/hr (around 15 to 20 hours a week), with additional stipends and professional development opportunities. To apply, students must be current or recently graduated undergraduate students at a community college, university, or other institution of higher education based in Phoenix (or live in Phoenix themselves). Applicants must be at least 18 years old. There are no other enrollment requirements. Students do not need to be majoring in the arts or similar fields to apply.
