I am excited to announce my second annual Mayor's Birthday Book Club!

Early childhood education and literacy are very important to me, and statistics show that children who have access to age-appropriate books in their homes have a better chance at succeeding academically.

Reading at grade level by 3rd grade is a key marker for a child's academic trajectory and builds a stronger foundation for success throughout their lives.

I am proud to team up with Scholastic, an organization that has been providing books and educational resources to educators and families for more than 100 years, and Read On Phoenix, a public-private partnership of community stakeholders dedicated to ensuring that every child will have the skills necessary to read at or above grade level by the end of third grade.

Our new partner for this year is Okland Construction, a full-service general contractor that is passionate about creating remarkable experiences in everything they do - including their commitment to education!

The second year of this program will provide 1,000 books for children ages four through eight during their birthday month. This year's book is “The Magic School Bus Builds the Statue of Liberty" by Anne Capeci. Each book will arrive addressed to the reader with a special birthday message from me. Read-aloud event dates will be posted here, so please check back! I look forward to reading with you!
