Lockbox Program
The Lockbox Program
The City of Phoenix Lockbox Program allows firefighters to gain entry to your home in case of emergency without causing any damage to your residence. This is done by utilizing a key that you provide in a secure lockbox attached to your entryway. This program not only provides free lockboxes to those vulnerable Phoenix residents; it also allows those who already have their own lockbox in place to register their lockbox code with the fire department.
Free lockboxes are donated by Phoenix REALTORS and are distributed on a first come, first served basis to vulnerable Phoenix residents who are 55+, have special needs or mobility issues.
This video offers a quick and easy guide to the lockbox program.
Lockbox Program FAQ:
If you live in a Phoenix Council District (click here to check if you are not sure) AND are 55+, have mobility issues or any other type of medical condition that might prevent you from getting to your door, than you may qualify for the free lockbox.
Yes, you can register an existing lockbox, garage door code, or smart lock code by completing the request form.
You can email pfd.lockbox@phoenix.gov and let us know your address and we will reach out to let you know when we are able to come by and exchange the key in your lockbox.
Since this is a lockbox that is donated by the Phoenix REALTORS® and provided free to City residents, only the Fire Department has access to the code. If you would like to share the code with friends or family, we recommend purchasing a lockbox that you can set your own code for and then registering it with the Fire Department.
Once you submit your request for a new lockbox, fire personnel will verify you are eligible and reach out to verify you have a copy of your house key ready. Once we confirm you are eligible and ready with a copy of the key, a member of the fire department will stop by your house (they usually call first) and obtain your key. The lockbox will be hung in an inconspicuous place. The code and location will be documented within our dispatch system so fire personnel have access to it should they respond to your address.
You can email pfd.lockbox@phoenix.gov and provide the address. We will see if that is a lockbox that is registered in our database, and if it’s our lockbox we will have someone from the Fire Department go pick it up. If not, we will let you know and you can arrange to have it removed.
