Built as part of a streetscape redevelopment in Laveen, a formerly agricultural area, Mary Lucking's bus shelters and benches were designed to provide a comfortable place for people to sit while waiting for buses or walking along 35th Avenue. The artist worked with children at nearby Maurice C. Cash Elementary School to develop the stitch patterns cut into the seating.
