Presence and other poems by José Emilio Pacheco

On May 10th 2022, the Cervantes Institute, headquartered in Chicago, inaugurated a library named after Mexican poet, José Emilio Pacheco. In 2001, The Berlin International Literature Festival hailed Pacheco "as one of the most important Latin American poets." In honor of Pacheco, who won the Cervantes Prize in 2009, the Cervantes Institute commissioned the Spanish singer and composer, Tomás Lozano, to set to music a handful of poems from Pacheco's extensive poetic career and sing them during the library's inauguration. Now Tomás Lozano shares Pacheco's poetry with the world by singing his poems. His concerts are accompanied by declaimer Rima Montoya, who recites each poem which she translated into English, before Lozano sings it in its original language. A twelve minute mini documentary titled, "Presencia Eterna, José Emilio Pacheco (1939-2014)", created by Diagrama Producciones SL, is screened with English subtitles as an introduction to the concert.
