International Archaeology Day 2026

Celebrate International Archaeology Day (IAD) at Phoenix, Arizona’s largest preserved archaeological site, S’ed̲av Va’aki Museum on Saturday, October 17th, 2026.

Our City Archaeologist, Dr. Chris Schwartz, will offer a guided tour of The Park of Four Waters from 9:30 am–11:00 am. Discover how these advanced canal systems were created and their impact on S’edav Va’aki and beyond. Space is limited, register in advance.

Spend time with SALT (Study of Ancient Lifeways and Technologies)! From 10:00am to 2:00pm all are welcome to join SALT for their monthly skills meeting with special demonstrations and an Atlatl spear throwing range!

International Archaeology Day (IAD) is a celebration of archaeology and its contributions to society. Every October the AIA and archaeological organizations around the world present archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. Whether it is a family-friendly archaeology fair, a guided tour of a local archaeological site, a simulated dig, or a presentation from a visiting archaeologist, the interactive, hands-on IAD programs provide a chance to uncover the past and experience the thrill of discovery.

International Archaeology Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in October, although participating events occur throughout the month of October.
