PHX Free Little Library Debuts at Phoenix Sky Harbor
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport celebrated Read Across America Day by unveiling the PHX Free Little Library on March 2. As part of the celebration, airport and Phoenix Public Library leaders read to children from Silvestre Herrera Elementary School in Phoenix. The new amenity in Terminal 3 is a partnership between Phoenix Sky Harbor, Phoenix Public Library and the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library.
The PHX Free Little Library is another way America’s Friendliest Airport® is elevating the passenger experience, offering books for readers of all ages. Travelers can take a book or donate one for others to enjoy. Books are provided by Phoenix Public Library and Friends of the Phoenix Public Library, with donations from travelers helping keep the shelves stocked.
“The PHX Free Little Library adds another engaging, family-friendly amenity to our vibrant Culture Corner,” said Aviation Director Chad Makovsky. “It’s such a convenient way for passengers to grab or drop off a book before their next flight. And today we were thrilled to welcome local Phoenix students as our first readers.”
The students heard stories read by Phoenix Sky Harbor and Phoenix Public Library leaders and participated in fun, related activities as part of March’s Culture Corner session.
"Offering the library at the airport is more than just a collection of books; it’s another way for those traveling through Phoenix Sky Harbor to discover stories and embark on literary adventures,” says Phoenix Public Library Services Director Erin MacFarlane. “Phoenix Public Library is delighted to contribute to this symbol of generosity and community connection."
“It fills our hearts with joy to help bring this Free Little Library to life at Phoenix Sky Harbor in partnership with Phoenix Public Library. Books have a special way of inspiring and connecting people, especially when they are far from home,” said President of the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library Alejandra Bucon. “The Friends of the Phoenix Public Library is honored to provide the books that make this space possible and hopes each one brings a moment of happiness to every traveler who discovers it.”
The PHX Free Little Library is in the Culture Corner, in Terminal 3, Level 4, post-security, between Gates F3 and F4. The Culture Corner is a unique space, established in 2025, highlighting the beauty and cultural diversity of Arizona, with regular events featuring local nonprofit cultural organizations.
