Councilwoman Laura Pastor's Statement on Approval of Community Transparency Initiative
Today, the Phoenix City Council approved the Community Transparency Initiative, taking action to bring more clarity and accountability during federal enforcement activity.
This means the City will track what’s happening, improve communication with residents, and ensure employees know how to respond. It also makes clear that City property cannot be used for federal civil enforcement without oversight and authorization.
This was a collective effort shaped by residents, community groups, and advocates who spoke up and pushed us to do more.
Thank you to my colleagues and City staff who met with community members and worked over the past several weeks to ensure those voices were reflected in this initiative.
As a City, we have a responsibility to protect our residents — and that is exactly what this action represents.
