Councilwoman Laura Pastor Statement on the Passing of Former ASU President Dr. Lattie Coor

"I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Lattie Coor, whose leadership transformed Arizona State University and left a lasting impact across our state.

As an ASU alumna, I have seen firsthand the incredible evolution of the university and the enduring impact of Dr. Coor’s work. My family had the privilege of crossing paths with Dr. Coor over many years of public service, and I have always admired his dedication to education and Arizona’s future.

As a former classroom teacher and lifelong educator, I have long believed in the power of education to change lives. Dr. Coor shared that belief.

Dr. Coor understood that talent exists in every community. His commitment to expanding educational opportunity helped create lasting pathways for first-generation students and students from historically underserved communities. Those investments continue to shape lives across Arizona today.

His legacy will continue to be felt through the generations of students, educators, and communities that have benefited from his leadership.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Coor’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire ASU community during this difficult time."
