Councilwoman Betty Guardado's Statement on New Phoenix Police Chief
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Matt Giordano on being selected as the next Chief of Police for the Phoenix Police Department. This appointment is crucial for our City, and I am confident that Chief Giordano’s extensive experience and leadership will play a vital role as we strive to enhance trust, transparency, and accountability within our police department.
As the representative for residents in District 5 on the council, I look forward to collaborating with Chief Giordano on key initiatives that will support Maryvale and its surrounding neighborhoods. Together, we can work towards creating safer communities, implementing responsive policing practices, and driving meaningful reform.
I urge Chief Giordano to build upon the reforms already underway by the City and to maintain an open dialogue with residents when navigating difficult decisions. His leadership signifies a new chapter for both our City and Police Department, presenting us with an incredible opportunity for significant progress together.
