City of Phoenix Reminds Residents to Stay Safe During Expected Storms
With the ground already saturated from recent rainfall and additional storms expected, the City of Phoenix is urging residents to remain weather-aware and take precautions throughout the weekend.
Important safety reminders:
- Stay weather-aware: Monitor forecasts, watches, and warnings throughout the weekend.
- Turn Around, Don’t Drown: Never drive through flooded roadways. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road.
- Plan ahead: Allow extra travel time and be prepared for temporary road closures.
- Avoid flood-prone areas: Stay out of washes, drainage channels, and other areas susceptible to flash flooding. Avoid recreational activities in these locations.
- Know when to call for help: Call 9-1-1 for emergencies and use appropriate non-emergency numbers for non-life-threatening situations.
Sand remains available at designated City of Phoenix parks for residents preparing for potential flooding. Residents should bring their own bags and shovels.
Phoenix firefighters responded to multiple water rescues during recent storms, reinforcing how quickly conditions can become dangerous.
Please stay safe, Phoenix. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
