Pablo Santibanez: Living the Dream

The Phoenix Fire Department is proud to highlight the journey of one of its newest firefighters, Pablo Santibanez, who recently fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter in the United States.
Two years ago, Pablo moved from Chile with his wife, who received a scholarship to attend Arizona State University. A volunteer firefighter in Chile, Pablo arrived in Phoenix determined to pursue his passion for firefighting. As he trained and worked through the Phoenix Fire Academy, Pablo’s dedication and enthusiasm became apparent to everyone he met.
Becoming an American firefighter has been a dream of Pablo’s – one shared by many in firefighting communities worldwide. His journey was not without obstacles, though. Just before completing the Phoenix Fire Academy, Pablo’s work visa was set to expire. Undeterred, he reached out to Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton, who helped him secure a new work visa, allowing Pablo to remain in Phoenix and serve his community.
Pablo’s story brings a unique and inspiring perspective to the Phoenix Fire Department, and his resilience and gratitude is evident. While he isn’t yet a U.S. citizen, he hopes to make that goal a reality in the future.
The Phoenix Fire Department is thrilled to have Pablo on board, and we’re proud of the perseverance, dedication, and energy he brings to our team and to the city of Phoenix.
