Phoenix Fire Department and Local 493 Successfully Complete 2025 Relationship By Objectives (RBO) Meeting
The Phoenix Fire Department announced the successful completion of its 2025 Relationship By Objectives (RBO) meeting, held on Tuesday, December 2nd at CCV Midtown. This annual gathering remains a cornerstone of the department’s commitment to collaboration, transparency, and shared leadership between labor and management.
The RBO process is an established tradition within the Phoenix Fire Department and brings together department leadership and representatives from Phoenix Firefighters Association Local 493 to jointly discuss important issues, evaluate current systems, and shape future initiatives. Rooted in the belief that the organization is only as strong as its members, RBO continues to provide a structured, open forum where diverse perspectives come together to guide departmental direction.
This year’s session included productive discussions focused on enhancing operational efficiency, supporting firefighter wellness, and maintaining the department’s long-standing standard of excellence in service to the community.
For 2026, the Phoenix Fire Department and Local 493 agreed to focus on improved staffing, updating technology to improve internal communications, address Special Operations sustainability, evaluate EMT training and a comprehensive organizational review for a potential shift schedule change to 1-3-2-3.
The outcomes of the 2025 RBO will help shape departmental priorities and initiatives for the future of the Phoenix Fire Department.
