Celebrating the Dedicated Service of Chaplain Fesmire

After 11 years of dedicated service to the Phoenix Police Department, Chaplain Bob Fesmire has retired.

Chaplain Fesmire joined the department in March 2015 and quickly became a steadfast source of support for employees and their families. Over his tenure, he dedicated nearly 23,000 volunteer hours to the organization, leaving a meaningful and lasting impact on the department.

“What I found amazing in the last year being back is that it did not matter where I went, what day it was, or what time it was—whether a council meeting at 2 p.m. or a critical incident at 2 a.m.—you were there,” said Police Chief Matt Giordano during the retirement celebration.

Throughout his career, Chaplain Fesmire responded to critical incidents, including officer‑involved shootings and situations involving critically injured officers. He attended 1,100 squad briefings, conducted more than 1,000 precinct visits, and completed 250 ride‑alongs. He supported employees during the loss of officers and stood beside those injured in the line of duty.

He credits his wife, Jennifer, as his foundation and the reason he was able to give so selflessly to his police family.

“I have never taken for granted what we have been given—the trust that has been placed in us,” Chaplain Fesmire said. “We have been incredibly blessed by the privilege, protection, and encouragement we have received from the Phoenix Police Department.”

Chaplain Fesmire began his ministry career more than 36 years ago. Early in his pastoral work, he felt called to support law enforcement, and 11 years ago the opportunity arose for him to join the department full time.

“In 36 years of ministry, no one has ever loved us, encouraged us, or trusted us like the Phoenix Police Department,” he said.

Employees across the department expressed their gratitude for the support the Fesmire family has provided over the years.

“This will always be your home,” Chief Giordano said. “Thank you to the Fesmire family for sharing him with us.”

Chaplain Fesmire and his wife are relocating to Tennessee to be closer to their children and grandchildren and hope to continue their ministry supporting law enforcement.
